Wildcats to Compete at Indoor SoCon Championships Thursday and Friday

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcat women's track and field team will open competition at the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow at the Clemson University Indoor Track Facility. Competition will conclude Friday.

The Indoor SoCon championships will be held on the campus of Clemson University for a fifth straight season. It is the 75th annual championship for the men and 25th for the women.

Competition kicks off Thursday at 9 a.m. with the women's pentathlon 60 meters hurdles. The top men's and women's teams will be the 2010 Indoor SoCon champions, and the top eight individuals in each event will be scored. The Top three in each event will be awarded All-SoCon honors.

Davidson has a few distance runners who are poised to make an impact this week. Wildcat freshman Natalie Atabek ranks fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:19.48 from the Liberty Open. UNC Greensboro's Katie Hansen is the only runner to break 10 minutes this season, with a time of 9:49.42. The Wildcats also have a pair of runners ranked in the conference in the 5,000 meters. Senior Heather Conarroe is fifth with a time of 18:12.23 and junior Danielle Ruggieri is sixth with a time of 18:12.72.

Freshman Rosie Lewis ranks 15th in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.40 time, behind leader Jasmine Billings (8.91) of Georgia Southern, and in the field events, sophomore Erin Lupfer ranks seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters from the Liberty Open.

Appalachian State's men and women will defend their 2009 titles, the 15th overall for the women and sixth for the Mountaineer men.
