DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Davidson's distance group will look to lead the Wildcats men's track and field team at the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday and Friday at the Indoor Track Complex on the campus of Clemson University.

Senior Tom Divinnie leads the conference in the 3000-meter run at eight minutes, 24.47 seconds, is second in the 5000m at 14:44.59 and is fifth in the mile at 4:15.48. All three times were school records.

Divinnie was named the SoCon men's track athlete of the month for January for his stellar performances.

Junior Charlie Schmitt and sophomore Ryan Hopkins also rank in the conference's 5000m top-five thanks to strong performances at the Liberty Open. Schmitt finished in 15:03.89, while Hopkins finished in 15:08.86.

Schmitt also ranks in the top ten for the 3000m after finishing in 8:35.14 at the season opening UNC Classic.

The SoCon championships are being held at Clemson's 1,800-seat facility for the fifth-consecutive year. This year marks the 75th championship for the men.

The championships begin Thursday at 9 a.m. with the women's pentathlon, followed by four men's heptathlon events at 9:15 a.m. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday at 4:40 p.m.

The event is free to the public. Live results will be available at the conclusion of each event at the official timing website. Additional information can be found on the Southern Conference website.

Appalachian State claimed both the men's and women's titles last season. The Mountaineer men will look to win their seventh championship since 2000.
