LYNCHBURG, Va.
Tom Divinnie broke his third Davidson indoor men's track and field record, winning the mile run at the Liberty Open in record time Saturday in Tolsma Indoor Track Center.

Divinnie posted a time of four minutes, 16.30 seconds, breaking the previous record of 4:16.5 set by Thad Sieracki last March. Junior Peter Bruton finished second in 4:18.98, the eighth-fastest mile in Davidson history.

Divinnie broke a total of two Davidson records at the Liberty Open, as he broke Davidson's 5000-meter run record Friday evening with a time of 14:44.59. The Brentwood, Tenn. native broke Davidson's 3000-meter run record in the Wildcats' season-opening event Saturday, Jan. 23, the Kent Taylor UNC Classic with a time of 8:24.47.

“It was another great performance from Tom,” said head coach Gary Andrew. “He and Peter led a string of solid performances for our team.”

The Wildcats placed three others in the mile top-10. Senior Blake Evitt placed sixth in 4:22.96 while junior Charlie Schmitt and sophomore Ryan Hopkins tied for seventh in 4:26.10.

Freshman Adrian Fadil became Davidson's eighth-best performer all-time in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:11.35.

Freshman Demetrios Pagonis placed third in the 3000-meter run in 8:41.96, ranking him as the seventh-best performer at Davidson all-time in the event.

Senior Mordecai Scott led the 'Cats in the sprints, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash in 23.47 seconds and 14th in the 60-meter dash in 7.24 seconds.

The Davidson track and field team will return to action on Friday, Feb. 12 for their final tune-up before the Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
