Panthers finish competition at Carolina Classic

COMPLETE RESULTS

Manika Gamble (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville )
earned top ten finishes in the 60-meter hurdle and 300-meter dash for the High Point University women's track & field team at the Dick Taylor Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Saturday's events at the Classic have been canceled due to inclement weather.

“Clearly Manika had another solid day,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “I am especially pleased with her performance in the 300-meter which she rarely runs. I am also very pleased with Erin Lonon (Cumberland, Va./Powhatan) and Rachel Webb (Wilson, N.C./Hunt)'s performance in the 300-meter. Those three are the core of our 4x400-meter relay at the indoor championship and they should do well. Kaylyn Peck (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) won her heat in her first collegiate mile which is clearly a good sign. I am disappointed we won't get to compete tomorrow but we understand.”

Gamble finished the 60-meter hurdles in seventh place in 8.82 and won her heat in the 300-meter, finishing sixth overall in 41.12. Webb also won her heat in the 300-meter, finishing 24th overall in 44.56. Lonon finished in 22nd in 44.47.

Kelsey Paine (Daniels, W.Va./Shady Spring) placed fifth in the 1,000-meter in 3:08.88 and Emma Tobin (Weston, Conn./Weston) finished eighth in the event in 3:22.25.

Peck finished the mile in 5:33.26, winning her heat and finishing 15th overall.

The Panthers will have next weekend off before they compete at the UNC Invitational on Feb. 12.
