Webb sets HPU record in pole vault at Liberty Kickoff

Rachel Webb set a school-record in the pole vault and the Panther's had three first place finishes at the Liberty Kickoff as the High Point University track & field teams began the 2009 indoor season. Manika Gamble won the 60-meter hurdles and Christina Fenske took first in the high jump for the women. Alex Fisher won the 60-meter hurdles on the men's side.

“I thought we showed some really positive signs today,” said assistant track & field coach Eric Dudley. “With three wins, three personal records and a school record in the pole vault it was a good day for us. Everyone performed well and it is a good sign for the future of the season.”

Webb set an HPU record in the pole vault, clearing 9'6.25. She finished the event in ninth place, sixth among collegiate competitors.

Gamble won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.78 for the women's team and Fisher won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.37 for the men.

Fenske cleared 5'5.00 in the high jump to tie Christina Mitchell of Liberty and Kaylor Vaughn of Radford for the event win.

Kara Boatman finished third in the shot put with a personal best throw of 37'5.25. Boatman finished James Madison's Jessica Wade and Elon's Justine Robertson.
