Caskey, Harden Draw September SoCon Player of the Month Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Two Davidson student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding performances in September, as junior Alex Caskey of the men's soccer team and senior Lance Harden of the men's cross country team were named as their respective sport's Southern Conference Player of the Month by the conference office on Wednesday.

Caskey, a native of Dunwoody, Ga., led the Wildcats with six goals in eight contests during the month, and ranked third in the Southern Conference with 14 points. The junior team captain played in every minute of every match, and had a career night in a 4-1 win over then-No.25 South Carolina. He was named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week and named the Southern Conference Player of the Week after totaling five points in the match. Caskey capped the month by scoring on an overtime penalty kick in the conference-opener against College of Charleston.

Harden, a native of Apex, N.C., led the Wildcats to two team titles in September and earned the 'Cats a regional ranking of 14th. He opened the season by placing second overall at the Eye Opener Invitational in 25 minutes, 29 seconds on the 8K course. The performance earned Harden the SoCon Runner of the Week award. The senior also finished second at the 8K Asics-Winthrop Invitational with a time of 25:00, which ranked as the third-fastest time in Davidson's history and a 20-second personal best. Harden has continued to perform in October, setting a new Davidson 8K cross country record at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic of 24:43.42 and leading the Wildcats to a 13th-place ranking in the Southeast region.
