NSAF Indoor Nationals Announces Move To Ocean Breeze

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2020 - The National Scholastic Athletic Foundation's Indoor Nationals will have a new home this winter, thanks to an exciting partnership announced today with the state-of-the-art Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

The 2020-21 season's NSAF Indoor Nationals are set for March 11-14, 2021. The meet is expanding to four days for the first time, including a day devoted to Freshman and Middle School events, in addition to the usual Championship and Emerging Elite divisions.

In less than five years, the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex-- led by Park Administrator Lauren Primerano and Director of Special Events Louis Vazquez -- has become one of the premier centers for track & field at all levels. The 135,000 square-foot, $93 million facility -- the first to be World Athletics-certified in the U.S. -- has hosted the 2019 Toyota USATF Championships, four years of the Hershey and USATF National Youth Championships, the New Jersey and New York state championships and several of the nation's largest and most prestigious invitationals, among others.

"We're thrilled to be able to partner with Ocean Breeze to host the 2021 Indoor Nationals," said NSAF Executive Director Jim Spier. "Since 2015, they've made a tremendous contribution to the sport of track & field at all levels with a world-class facility and world-class leadership. It's a privilege to have them joining us for this new beginning."

Ocean Breeze -- which opened in November, 2015 -- was funded by New York City's PlaNYC initiative, with construction managed in coordination with the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC). The elite-level hydraulically-banked competition track can convert from eight to six lanes and incline up to 4.5 feet. You can read more details here.

NSAF Indoor Nationals meet information details, such as registration, entry details, guidelines, meet schedule, accommodations and more will be available in the weeks ahead. The dates of the event may be subject to change depending on the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, possible schedule changes for the New York Indoor State Championships and other factors.

The NSAF was involved with high school indoor national championships since the first Pathmark National Scholastic Classic in 1984 and has owned and operated its own indoor nationals since 1999. The NSAF's meet has also been located in Columbus, Ohio; Landover, Md.; Boston; and, from 2010-19, the NYC Armory; and previous presenting sponsors have included Nike and New Balance. The 2020 meet was cancelled due to the onset of the pandemic. A presenting sponsor for the 2021 NSAF Indoor Nationals will be disclosed in the near future.
