NY Weekend: McQuaid, Great American, St. Anthony's, Grout

What a weekend to finally see how most of the top teams stack up. ArmoryTrack.com was onsite at the McQuaid Invitational and the St. Anthony's Invitational. Photos coming from both and videos coming from McQuaid.

HIGHLIGHTS

McQuaid Invitational- The Saugus, CA girls were in town to match up against FM. Too bad FM wasn't in the meet. Either way they proved they are legit as they ran the 2nd fastest team average (17:35) ever at McQuaid. The East Aurora girls dominated their race and the Canandaigua girls beat Burnt Hills.

The Liverpool boys looked very good in beating Burnt Hills head to head. Liverpool, averaged 15:47 while Burnt Hills averaged 15:49. It appeared as though BH's group of top runners had a slightly off day and they are still a major player for the NYS Federation title.

Cody Pelliccioni of Morgantown had the fastest time of the day as he covered the fast 3.0 mile course in 14:53. The race of the day was between HFL's Alex Deir and Steve Mangan. As Deir thought he had the race won he raised his arms in victory and Mangan slipped past to win but a few tenths, if that.

Kaylin Mahoney of Saugus, CA was the fastest of the day in 17:02.  Lauren Mullins, (Johnson City soph) 17:18 had the fastest time for a NY girl as she ran 17:21. PHOTOS AND VIDEOS COMING

St. Anthony's Invitational - Quinn Raseman of Ward Mellville had the fastest time of the day in 12:53. St. Anthony's bested Calhoun 33-44 with a 13:30 average. Calhoun averaged 13:41. Byram Hills and Manhasset won the other two varsity races, both averaging just under 14:00.

Emily Lipari of Roslyn, the multiple time All-American, had the fastest time of the day in 14:55 on a day it seemed that most runners were running a little slower than usual. Katie Skinner of Riverhead ran 14:56 to win the A-2 race with Holy Trinity's Colleen Schmidt right behind her in 15:01.

The Bronxville girls won the small schools race easily running without top girl Henrietta Miers. Northport topped West Islip in the A-2 race and St. John the Baptist beat Ridegfield, CT 35-47 in the A-1 race. PHOTOS HERE

Grout Run - The Sauquoit Valley boys beat Rhinebeck for the "C" title 52-54. The Chaminade boys beat Shenendehowa 49-82 and Shaker beat Washingtonville 82-101 for the other title. Yorktown's Manu Kumar had the fastest time of the day in 13:27.

The Rhinebeck girls flip-flopped the boys results, beating Sauquoit Valley 37-60. North Rockland beat county rival Tappan Zee 31-62 and Queensbury dominated the last race 29-94 over Columbia with a 16:04 average. Queensbury Danielle Winslow had the fastest time of the day in 15:34.

Great American - The Saratoga Springs girls won the Great American XC Festival in North Carolina. Keelin Hollowood led the way in 7th place with a tlme of 18:06. All seven girls ran under 19:10.

Monroe-Woodbury placed 4th as newcomer Megan Patrignelli was 8th in 18:07. North Shore was 7th as Samantha Nadel just missed the win by three seconds. Nadel ran 17:17. Warwick Valley was 11th.

The North Rockland boys were 4th in the race of champions and the Saratoga boys were 15th.

Paul Short - Cornwall junior Aisling Cuffe ran the 2nd fastest time ever last week at Bowdoin Park. Only Nicole Blood ran faster back in 2004. So what did Cuffe do this week for an encore? She ran the 2nd fastest time ever at Paul Short in PA, missing Aislinn Ryan's record from 2004 by 2 seconds.

Cuffe was good last year but seems to be at a whole other level this season as she strives to be one of the best in US history.

About two months after Ryan won the Paul Short Invitational she went on to win the Foot Locker National Title. She's the last NYer to accomplish the feat.
