FHSAA Moves Forward With July 27 Fall Sport Start Date

After nearly five hours of discussing the future of fall sports in the state of Florida, the FHSAA Board of Directors voted to move forward with the originally scheduled July 27 start date.

While the board of directors denied the proposal submitted by the fall sport task force, the Sport Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) presented recommendations for the board to consider that they will review at a later date this week.

Among these recommendations, was the suggestion that cross country competitions consist of staggered or wave starts in order to prevent congregating at the start and finish lines.

No sport by sport decisions have been made at this time.

After reviewing the SMAC recommendations the board will meet again this week, at a time decided by FHSAA staff, in order to establish a date that schools must either opt in or out of the state series in each sport. After discussion today, FHSAA has been asked to be flexible when allowing adjustments to seasons that deviate beyond the regular season date.
