What Is The Best North Carolina State Record Performance?

West Region

1 Seed: New Bern Boys Sprint Relays

New Bern boys were incredible in the sprint relays in 2009 and are one of the best sprint relay teams in US History.  They hold the National Record in both the 800m and 1600m Sprint Medley Relay at 1:28.20 and 3:19.58, are US#2 All-Time in the 4x400m at 3:08.04 and hold the North Carolina 4x200m State Record at 1:24.80.  Teams consist of Fuquawn Green, Andrew Hendrix, Anthony Hendrix, Daishawn Styron and Miles Sparks

2 Seed: Morgan Smalls (Panther Creek)

Smalls has been incredible in the jumps since she was a freshman, but the High Jump has been her bread and butter.  Smalls holds an outdoor best of 6-2¼ and indoor best of 6-3¼ good for US#4 All-Time.

3 Seed: Johnny Dutch (Clayton)

Dutch's 400m Hurdle State Record of 50.07 stands as a US#12 All-Time mark.  His mark came from US Junior Nationals in 2007.  He also is US#2 All-Time in the 300m Hurdles behind rival Spencer Adams (Butler) who both dominated in the hurdles in 2007. Only Dutch and Adams have broken 51 seconds in the 400m Hurdles in state history.

4 Seed: Ryen Frazier (Ravenscroft)

Ryen Frazier broke her sister Wesley's 1600m/Mile State record running 4:38.59 at the 2015 Dream Mile in New York.  Her sister's mile record from two years prior was 4:39.17.  Both girls won the 5000m, 2 Mile and Mile over the span of three days at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2013 and 2015.

5 Seed: Thomas Graham (Cary Academy)

Thomas Graham ran 14:11 twice during his senior year at Cary Academy.  He clocked 14:11.66 at Raleigh Relays then a month later went to his future school in Stanford and ran a 14:11.23 at the Payton Jordon Invitational.  Only he and Connor Lane are under 14:20 for the 5K and his mark stands as the US#16 All-Time Performance.

6 Seed: Veronica Fraley (Wakefield)

Veronica Fraley proved to be North Carolina's best all-time discus thrower last year with a mark of 175-9 at Penn Relays good for US#30 All-Time.  Her mark broke Aslynn Halvorson's 169-5 state record from 2009 and make her the only North Carolina girl over 170 feet.

7 Seed: Chris Brooks (Broughton)

Chris Brooks holds the oldest boys North Carolina State Record in standard events as his 25-9 Long Jump has stood since 1982.  10 North Carolina boys have cleared 25 feet outdoors, but Brooks sits 2.5 inches ahead of Brian Ellis of North Rowan for the top mark.

8 Seed: Cary Girls 4x800m

Cary's team of Deanna Foshee, Sheridan Jordan, Jenna Christensen and Erin Foshee clocked 9:01.23 in the 4x800m in 2011 at New Balance Outdoor Nationals.  They held splits of 2:14.13, 2:14.11, 2:15.21 and 2:17.80 and are the only NC school to break 9:10 outdoors.
