What Is The Best North Carolina State Record Performance?

Mideast Region

1 Seed: Anna Cockrell (Providence Day)

Hurdle Queen Anna Cockrell holds all three outdoor hurdle state records with her US#13 All-Time 13.17 100mH, US#10 All-Time 40.42 300mH and US#2 All-Time 55.20 400mH.

2 Seed: Wayne Davis (Southeast Raleigh)

Wayne Davis holds the top 2 marks in US history in the 110m Hurdles running 13.08 and 13.19 in 2009.  He withstood Marcus Krah's US#3 All-Time 13.25 run in 2016 and holds one of the toughest National Records in HS Track & Field.

3 Seed: Wesley Frazier (Ravenscroft)

Frazier is one of 6 girls to ever break 16 minutes in the outdoor 5000m.  Frazier ran 15:55.94 at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2013 in her first of three national titles in the distance events over the span of three days and stands as a US#5 All-Time mark.

4 Seed: John Crossley (West Carteret)

Crossley was on fire at the end of his senior year becoming the fourth North Carolina boy ever under 1:50 and the first ever under 1:49.  At the time his New Balance Nationals winning mark was good for US#12 All-Time Outdoors.  It has dropped to US#12 All-Time and still is 1.26 seconds than any other North Carolina boy.

5 Seed: Nevada Mareno (Leesville Road)

Mareno holds the state record of 9:56.96 for 3200m, or 10:00.44 for 2 Miles.  Mareno flew from the adidas Boost Boston Games 1500m before running a historic battle with Weini Kelati at New Balance Outdoor Nationals.  Her runner up finish stands at US#20 All-Time and narrowly edged out Wesley Frazier, Ryen Frazier and Julie Shea for the NC State Record.

6 Seed: Tanner Anderson (East Burke)

Anderson broke Jesse William's 7-3 State Record in 2010 at the 3rd Annual Blue Devil Track & Field Invitational jumping 7-3¼.  Anderson leads 24 other North Carolina boys over the 7 foot barrier, but only he and Williams have climbed over 7-3 in high school.

7 Seed: High Point Central 4x100m

High Point Central are one of two North Carolina schools to ever break 46 seconds in the 4x100m after running 45.76 in the Prelims at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2017.  The team consisted of Lauren Williams, Leah Bolden, Zhamoura McPhail and Tamara Clark.

8 Seed: Spencer Evans (Lake Norman)

Though we likely would have seen Evans ascend to a higher mark this outdoor season, and still could, Evans holds the overall state record of 17-0¾ at the Millrose Games.  Evans became the first North Carolina boy to ever break 17 feet.  Evans best outdoor mark was a runner-up finish at New Balance Outdoors last year clearing 16-5¼.
