Justin Braun Scores Big State Double, First To Go Under 47

It took four months and thousands of performances, but Thomas Worthington (OH) High School sophomore Justin Braun became the first boys athlete in 2020 to go under 47 seconds indoors for 400 meters, winning his OATCCC Division I State Championship on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in 46.77 seconds on an oversized track.

While the performance didn't come on a 200m track, it was still incredibly impressive. Coming into Saturday, he already led the nation at the distance with his previous best of 47.36 seconds from the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase in February.

And by dropping a sub-47, he becomes a contender to potentially win a New Balance Nationals Indoor title next week in New York City.
