Men’s Cross Country Picked Third in Preseason SoCon Poll

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's cross country team was picked in a three-way tie for third place in the preseason Southern Conference cross country poll, voted on by the league's coaches and released by the conference office.
The Wildcats received 68 points, and picked up one first-place vote, on their way to a tie with Furman and UNC Greensboro for the third spot.
Returning for Davidson is senior Lance Harden, who earned All-SoCon honors last season after finishing 11th at the conference championships. The 'Cats also return a pair of sophomores, Ryan Hopkins and Ian Tupper, who both made an impact in their rookie campaigns.
Appalachian State, who received eight first-place votes and 97 points overall, return five runners who finished in the top 20 at the 2008 SoCon Championships, and is picked to repeat as conference champions after taking the men's title last season.
Also receiving first-place votes was Chattanooga. The Mocs, who finished second in the 2008 championships, received two first-place votes and 91 votes overall. Following Davidson in sixth place was Elon, with Samford, Western Carolina, College of Charleston, The Citadel and Wofford rounding out the poll.
