Providence School Alumna Eden Meyer Dominates Hometown Half

Providence School and University of North Florida alumna, Eden Meyer, dropped a 1:13:15 to win the Ameris Bank Jacksonville Half Marathon this weekend.

The 23 year old, who returned to her hometown of Jacksonville, set a new personal best for the distance as she continues her amateur running career for the Atlanta Track Club elite.

Meyer's story is one that can inspire many athletes around the state of Florida. Her high school career was stellar -- placing amongst the top 10 amongst 1A competitors at both cross country and track meets. But, she missed out on bringing home a state championship winning title.

Following graduation, Meyer went to work UNF, and she quickly started to write history. Her freshman year she finished fourth at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships with a time of 17:45 -- a strong improvement from her high school 18:34 PR. Her freshman track season, Meyer found her sweet spot with the 10k distance, bringing home a conference title with a time of 35:12.

That was just the beginning for Meyer's strong distance career. In addition to her first conference win as a college freshman, the Osprey wrote record books and added 8 more conference titles between her cross country and track careers and three NCAA National Championship runs.

Meyer's story is one of progression over perfection early in her career. This new half marathon PR puts this Florida alumna as one of the top amateur distance runners in the nation this year.
