Southern Cal. Lands Jumps Star Morgan Smalls

Panther Creek superstar Morgan Smalls announced her commitment to the University of Southern California today in a ceremony at her high school.

Smalls is one of the most talented athletes to ever come out of the state of North Carolina with PRs of 6-3.25 in the High Jump, 41-9.75 in the Triple Jump and 19-11.5 in the Long Jump.

Smalls holds 10 NCHSAA 4A State titles overall indoors and outdoors in the three events, as well as a 400m runner-up finish last outdoor season.  Smalls is also the 2019 New Balance Indoor and Outdoor National Champion in the High Jump.

Smalls will immediately be a force for USC in the jumps when she joins the Trojans for the 2020-2021 season.  Per the MileSplit database, only eight girls have exceeded her PR of 6-3.25 at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships.

A large part of Smalls high school career has been fighting with her team for the NCHSAA 4A Team Titles over the last three years.  Smalls will get to continue this in college as she joins a USC team that is always in contention for PAC-12 and NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles.

Smalls will follow in footsteps of fellow North Carolina star Anna Cockrell who is in her final year with USC and was the outdoor national champion in the 400m Hurdles in 2019.

She also considered and took visits to the University of South Carolina, Louisiana State University and the University of Georgia before ultimately deciding on Southern Cal.
