We saw a few North Carolina girls have impressive weekends at the Mark Trail Invitational down in Georgia.  The meet took place over the last three days and concluded today.  We recapped some of the athletes performances below.

Shawnti Jackson

8th grader Shawnti Jackson had a huge weekend at the Mark Trail Invitational winning the 14 Year Old 100m Dash, 200m Dash and 400m Dash all in new PRs. Jackson's marks were all three national leads for middle schoolers as well as 13-14 Club Girls.

Jackson's first event of the day was the 400m where she was just off her previous PR (55.43) in yesterday's prelims running 55.88.  Jackson, the daughter of Olympic Hurdler Bershawn Jackson would face off against Cha'Iel Johnson who is Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson's daughter.  Jackson would be on her outside and would lead Johnson coming on the homestretch and had another gear powering through the line in 53.69!  If Jackson was in high school it would rank her 8th All-Time in the event in state history!

Jackson would come back to run a 11.60 to dominate the girls 100m Dash as well as 24.19 in the 200m Dash finals.  Her 100m mark would rank her NC No. 1 this season amongst high schoolers in the state this season, and NC No. 7 in the 200m.  We should see more from her as the season gets going through nationals later in the summer.

Kayla Davis

Kayla Davis had another strong weekend after improving her North Carolina 400m State Record a week ago clocking 52.08.  She would take on the 100m and 200m this weekend.  Through the prelims Davis would run 11.80 as well as 23.31, just off her 100m PR and equaling her 200m PR.

Today in the finals Davis would sweep the titles in the 15-16 races running two new PRs of 11.68 and 23.08.  Davis' 200m will improve her NC No. 2 All-Time 200m as she closes in on Gabby Mayo's state record of 22.88.  Davis' 200m will put her at US No. 3 so far this outdoor season.

Akala Garrett

Akala Garrett had a big weekend sweeping the 100m Hurdles and 200m Hurdles for the 13-14 Age Group.  Garrett broke her 100m Hurdle PR of 14.03 and ran 14.00 winning by .11 seconds over Olivia Powell.  Garrett and Powell would face off again today in the 200m where Garrett would run 27.30 to win by just .06 seconds.  Both of Garrett's marks this weekend are good for national leads for 13-14 and Middle School girls!

Kaylyn Brown

8th grader Kaylyn Brown would have strong weekends finishing 2nd in both the 200m and 400m in the 15-16 Age Group.  Brown would start the day with a PR in the 400m where she lost by .11 seconds, but her PR was nearly 2 seconds running 54.68 bettering her previous 56.54 from a few weeks ago.  Brown holds a 24.24 (+2.4) All-Conditions PR, but would run 24.40 in the prelims, then 24.42 in the finals taking 2nd place against athletes two school years ahead of her!

Ariana Rivera & Nimeesha Coleman

Providence HS teammates Ariana Rivera and Nimeesha Coleman ran NC No. 1 and NC No. 2 marks respectively in the 400m Hurdles.  Rivera clocked 1:02.74 taking the win as Coleman was just behind her in 1:03.17 in the 17-18 Girls 400m Hurdles as they'd finish 1-2.  Both would run well in the 400m Prelims as well clocking 56.63 and 57.81 respectively.  Sanu Jallow of Berry Academy would run a NC No. 10 400m as well clocking a PR of 56.28!
