Randolph Ross Becomes 23rd North Carolinian To Clear 7-0


Randolph Ross of Garner became the fifth boy in the country this year and the second North Carolina boy to clear 7-0 this outdoor season.  Ross compete today at Fuquay-Varina High School in his second meet of the outdoor season.  

As a junior Ross jumped 6-10.75 indoors and 6-10 outdoors.  He cleared 6-8 during this indoor season.  Along with being a star high jumper Ross was an All-American in the indoor 400m as well as the 300m Indoor State Record Holder running 33.80.

Ross currently sits at a tie for US No. 2 in the high jump as well as tied for NC No. 1 with friend and rival Omar McBride (Apex).  McBride has clear 7-0 twice this outdoor season and is the defending New Balance Outdoor National Champion.

Ross becomes the 23rd North Carolina high schooler to clear the 7-0 barrier.  11 of the 23 have went higher the 7-0 making Ross tied for NC#12 All-Time in the event.

Tanner Anderson (East Burke) holds the North Carolina High Jump State Record at 7-3.25 from 2010.

Ross is a national title contender in the high jump, 200m and 400m depending on what events he decides to focus on at the end of his senior season.
