Zariyah Black - Eastern Guilford
Black went slightly overshadowed at the NCHSAA 3A Indoor State Championships where she ran 8.19 and 7.08 in the 55m Hurdle and 55m Dash Prelims followed by 8.05 and 7.07 in the finals. Black had been amongst the top girls in the state all year, but that was certainly a big jump with four races in a very short amount of time. She was edged by Alexis Patterson (Parkland) in both as well as Alyson Davis (Northern Guilford) in the 55m Dash Finals.
Nationally Black ranks US#18 in the 55m Dash and US#16 in the 55m Hurdles. Her outdoor PRs are 11.85 and 14.51 which she should improve on this spring/summer. Black should be one of the best sprinter/hurdlers in state history when she's all done with high school.
