DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University men and women's track and field program placed nine members on the 2009 All-ACC Academic teams. Seven men were selected to the team, while two women represented the Blue Devils.
John Austin, Michael Barbas, James Kostelnik, Ryan McDermott, Cory Nanni, Bobby Weinstein and Bo Waggoner captured honors on the men's side. Austin, McDermott and Weinstein earned the accolade for the second time in their careers. The duo of Austin and McDermott were two of 10 All-ACC honorees to grab spots on the 40-person squad.
On the women's side, Molly Lehman and Patricia Loughlin picked up the honor after earning All-America recognition in 2009. Lehman was recognized on the All-Academic team for the second time in her career, wile Loughlin earned the award for the first time.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as earned a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
