Boys 1600m

We had a two section timed final scheduled, and in the first section Giovanni Rincon (Crain's Creek) was out fast well ahead of the field.  Rincon was entered with no seed time, and knew if he were going to win he'd have to run a fast time all on his own.  Rincon soloed a 4:45.15 running pretty even splits for each 400 setting a very high standard for our fast heat.

Adrian Archer (West PIne) and Nate Jaster (Weddington) were two of the top seeds who had run under 4:50 before.  Knowing they'd have to run fast to beat Rincon's mark the pace surprisingly didn't go out too fast, and they weren't really under 4:50 pace for most of the race.  Archer, Jaster, Dylan Core (Endeavor Academy), Abdi Green (Brevard), Gage Austin (Cuthbertson) and Haden Miller (Weddington) were all athletes in the lead pack.  As they hit 400 meters to go Archer and Jaster began to break away from the field clocking 3:41 for the 1200, well off sub 4:45 pace.  The two boys ran side by side for the next 300 meters before Archer was able to hold the inside track and pull ahead of Jaster.  Archer crossed the line in 4:44, meaning he closed in 63 seconds to beat Rincon's time!  Pretty impressive feat by these middle school studs!  Archer will attend Pinecrest next fall as Jaster will head to Weddington.
