NCHSAA Crowns 6 New Schools As Indoor Track & Field State Champions

Cuthbertson Girls -3A

This looked to be a close battle between Hillside and Cuthbertson for the state title.  Cuthbertson was state champions last year as Hillside won the NCHSAA 4A Outdoor team title and returned most of their team.  Hillside is strong in the sprints, relays and throws as Cuthbertson is pretty balanced all around, but relies heavily on Sarah LaTour and the distance program.  Hillside was without their star Sprinter Alysia Johnson, who missed the meet due to injury.

Even with a healthy Johnson, the Cavs would have been tough to beat yesterday.  Their 4x800 was able to kick off the day with a 3rd place finish without their star Sarah LaTour.  They decided to save LaTour for some a tough 1600/1000 battle with T.C. Roberson star Elise Wright.  LaTour ultimately was beaten by Wright in both events as she took a close 2nd place finish.  Despite two hard efforts under her belt LaTour was able to come back for a 3200 title over a lot of girls that were fresh.  LaTour was crowned meet MVP for the second year in a row for her efforts scoring 26 points for her team.

Cuthbertson's freshman distance runners were also able to score points in both the 1600 and 3200.  Kaitlyn St. Hilaire was able to score in both taing 6th in the 1600 and 8th in the 3200.  Leah Helms and Madeline Hill were able to take 5th in the 1600 and 3200 respectively.

Cuthbertson also had a strong day from their sprint squad who were able to take 2nd in the 4x400 and 5th in the 4x200.  Aubrie Farwell and Florah Henry took 5th and 8th in the 500 as Dahlia Cutler took 6th in the 300m Dash.  Olivia Galuppo was able to also contribute in the high jump taking 7th overall.

Cuthbertson ended the meet with a whopping 65.50 points as Weddington was able to upset Hillside for 2nd by .5 points with a score of 48 to 47.50.  This is going to be a fun battle to watch outdoors as Cuthbertson looks to only be getting better, and Hillside will add Johnson back into the mix, add the 300 Hurdles where Jessica Wright shines and add the Discus where star thrower Kayla Beasley will be able to add more points.
