This girls race is going to be a fun one to watch.  There is no clear favorite in this field with 8 girls having PRs under 18:10 this XC season.  Most of these girls have been pretty back and forth all season, with no one in the field being dominant over their competitors.  The biggest breakthrough came from Elise Wright (T.C. Roberson) at the state meet where she clocked 18:03 shocking the NCHSAA 3A Girls field.  Wright holds an 800 PR of 2:13.63, and getting back on the track could really favor her tomorrow.

Mariah Howlett (Lake Norman Charter) also ran 18:03 at the state meet and holds the most impressive 3200 PR of 10:37.39 from last spring.  Howlett has been known to be a frontrunner, so it's very likely that she'll be the one pushing that pace early on.  Katherine Dokhoylan (Chapel Hill) was second to Wright in 3A with a 5K PR of 17:55.  Dokholyan holds a 1600 PR of 4:57 and is very good on the track.  Calli Parlier (Apex) is one to watch in this field after edging Sophie Faircloth (Reagan) for 2nd at the 4A State Championships.  Parlier has come on very strong at the end of the last two XC seasons and should have a big 3200 PR in store.

Carmen Alder (Pinecrest) holds a PR of 18:04, but suffered from a fast early pace at states finishing in 8th.  She should definitely be ready to roll after getting back onto the track this weekend.  Izzy Evely (Lake Norman Charter) was just four seconds back of teammate Mariah Howlett for the 2A State Title, and has historically been better on the track than she has in XC.  This could be a big performance from this 800/1600 meter star.

Katie Pou (Nation Ford, SC) will be the lone out of state runner in this field.  Pou was the SCHSL 5A State Championship this year as a freshman, and will demolish her 3200 PR by likely a minute this weekend.  Her 18:05 came from Wendy's earlier this year.  Also Sarah LaTour (Cuthbertson) holds the fastest PR in the field of 10:55 in the 3200.  She was 7th at the 3A State Championships, but was battling with Wright until things fell apart the last 400 meters.  Also look out for Madeline Hill (Cuthbertson) who was 3rd in 3A and Sloan Walter (Cardinal Gibbons) who ran 10:55 at this event last year!
