Watch Cary Boys win the Greensboro Invitational
Cary boys once again posted a strong showing at the Greensboro Invitational edging out Chapel Hill and Panther Creek as the Imps placed their top 4 at or under 16:20! Their fifth man took 20th overall which was ahead of both Chapel Hill and Panther Creek's #4 runner.
Chapel Hill looked to be in control as runners started to come to the finish line with Ryan Combs and Nat Romaine placing in the top 5 individually. But the pack of Cary was too much for Chapel Hill to hold off as they ended up trailing Cary by 12 points at 56-68.
Cary was lead by juniors Brian Picone and Anton Idhammar who took 7th and 8th overall in 16:09 and 16:17 with Stephen Atkinson and Jackson Martin just behind at 16:19 and 16:20. Each of the boys in Cary's top 5 set PRs Saturday at Hagan Stone and look to be a big time contender at Wendy's Invitational this weekend. Cary is going to be a fun team to watch the next two years with their entire top 5 being underclassman.
Despite the Tigers losing to Cary this weekend there is still a ton of positives for them to take away. Their top 3 boys each set new PRs and Ryan Combs emerged as a frontrunner for this team with a 15:49 and second place finish. Combs lead through the majority of the race before eventually being caught by Chase Coley towards the end of the race. The Tigers also didn't have their #4 or #5 in Ben Hawley or Jacob Meredith-Andrews which caused their 1-5 gap to be a little higher than normal and certainly hurt them in the team scores. They'll be battling with Cary, Mt. Tabor and Weddington once again this weekend at Wendy's.
