Brent Bailey, The New 6A State Favorite?

Ever since his epic anchor kick for the 6A South 4x800 title it has been clear that Brent Bailey (Ocean Lakes) is on the up & up. This past Saturday though he took it a step further and made himself a serious contender for the 6A state XC title which would be his first title. His VA #2 time of 15:13 was good enough for second in the very fast and competitive adidas XC Challenge down in Cary, NC.

Brent's move to the top of the 6A rankings though is not a huge surprise after checking out his athlete profile and seeing that he has consistently been improving for years and it just seems that now he has passed the point from good to great.

States is a long ways away but this is a huge deal for the former Eastern Region. Only three times in the previous decade has a non-Northern Region athlete won a state XC crown and if he were able to seal the deal this year it would make it a first time ever  three in a row after Oscar Smith's Peter Smith won last year and Jonathan Lamogda won it in 2015. Brent will definitely be looking to achieve that goal and improve on his 16th finish from last year.

Keep an eye on this 757 star because he has some quick wheels and now is the VA#2 and 6A #1 athlete.
