Reagan High School and Ole Miss University Graduate Craig Engels joins the Nike Oregon Project with coach Alberto Salazar!
Engels capped off his career at Ole Miss with a 3rd place finish at NCAA Outdoor Nationals in the 1500, .02 seconds off of second place as he was nipped at the line. Engels ran the first round of the 1500s at the USATF National Championships last weekend in an Ole Miss uniform and then made his Nike debut in the finals where he took fourth, again by .02 seconds after leading down the homestretch ahead of Robby Andrews and now teammate and Olympic Champion Matthew Centrowitz.
Engels announced that he was joining Nike Running on his Instagram (@craigathor) on June 23rd.
Engels will race throughout the summer as he looks to chase the World Standard. Centrowitz and Johnny Gregory (3rd at USAs) already have the World A Standard, while US Champion Robby Andrews will have to chase. If Andrews does not run under 3:36.00 for the 1500 or 3:53.40 for the Mile and Engels does, he will be on the US World Team.
Engels will now be training partners with some of the worlds top distance runners in Matt Centrowitz, Galen Rupp, Mo Farah, Eric Jenkins just to name a few.
Congrats to Engels, we know you'll represent North Carolina well on the professional level!
