Athens Drive 100m Star To Reclassify To Class Of 2018 At A New School!

Brandon Ray (Athens Drive) will be back on the track next season, but not in an Athens Drive uniform.  Ray is reclassifying to the class of 2018 and will be eligible to compete in both Football and Outdoor Track at his new school, Village Christian Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  Village Christian Academy competes in the NCISAA 2A Classification, which is combined with NCISAA 1A for the outdoor state championships.

Ray holds a 100 PR of 10.50 from Wake County this season and was the NCHSAA 4A State Champion this outdoor season running 10.67.  Ray also holds a 200 PR of 22.43 and a indoor 55m dash PR of 6.36 that ranked as NC#2 this season.  The NCISAA currently doesn't currently run indoor track, but we will hopefully see Ray compete unattached this winter.

NCISAA 1A/2A Returning Outdoor Rankings

This year at the NCISAA 1A/2A State Championships sophomore Matt Kiatipis (Cape Fear Academy) swept the 100, 200 and 400 and running 11.00, 22.18 and 49.50.  So there is certainly a huge matchup brewing between those two heading into the 2018 outdoor track season.

Below is an interview with Ray after finishing his 2017 outdoor season with a 4th place finish at New Balance Outdoor Nationals and he talks about his excitement to get to compete in the NCISAA with VCA next season.
