When did we know it could be a huge day for Ishaq Smith (North Mecklenburg) at the 4A State Championships? When he got the baton on the anchor leg of the 4x100 in section 1 earlier in day back in 7th or 8th and ran down the entire field to get the heat win to take 7th overall.
His 4x100 leg was out of lane 8, and his 200 seed time didn't do him any favors placing him in lane 1. Smith came off the turn well and you just knew it was going to be his day as he was battling with 100m Dash runner up Kobe Barnes (Wakefield) in lane 2. Smith was able to edge Barnes running 21.83 to Barnes 21.92! A massive upset that's going to give Smith a ton of momentum heading into the national meet and summer season.
