National Weekend Rundown for October 31

North Carolina Regional Championships (NC)

Just one week after setting the Wake Med course record at a blazing 16:36, No. 20 ranked junior Nevada Mareno of Leesville Road High School returned to the course to win the 4A Mideast Regional in 16:48.

The win was just enough to lead the Pride past defending state champions Green Hope, 47-49. No. 1 Elly Henes finished runner-up in 18:11.

No. 23 ranked Jeremy Brown of No. 14 Broughton ran away with the 4A Mideast boys title in 15:19. Broughton placed their top five 1-4-10-11-14 to win the team title with 40 points, a 43-second spread and 15:48 5k average.

At the 3A West race, Anna Vess broke the Freedom course record with a solo 18:16 effort. The defending 3A state champion has broken 18 minutes twice this season with a best of 17:50.

No. 19 Connor Lane of Cardinal Gibbons won the 4A Midwest Regional in 15:43 as No. 22 Mount Tabor scored 32 points for the win (53-second spread/16:02 5k average).
