Seeded Boys Race

Coming down the steep woods hill and around the lake, the boys seeded race is led by The Woodlands senior Brian Sullivan. Barely visible and running in 6th place is lead Virginian Hari Mix and just behind him Christo Landry. Sullivan would lead them through the two mile point on the other side of the lake in a time of 9:25. A closer look at Hari Mix and Christo Landry intermingled with some of the other race leaders as they encircle the lake the first time. Left to right in front of the Virginians are Nicholas Hutchins (NC), Erik Stanley (TX), Andrew Bumbalough (TN), and James Strang (TN).
Close up of Albemarle senior Hari Mix as he passes by. Wow! I didn't expect Bryce Iverson to be this close to the leaders, and I just managed a passing snapshot as he went by.
Hari Mix (15:03) tries in vain to hold off Texas' Kyle Miller (15:02) and North Carolina's Nicolas Hutchins (15:02) as they sprint to the finish. For Hari it was a gallant effort and a huge 32 sec 5K PR. On the backstretch between the two trees is the Forest Park junior Bryce Iverson. A passing snapshot of Christo Landry in his final kick to a 15:05 10th place finish.
Bryce Iverson after passing the 3 mile mark on the way to the finish (15:23). Iverson dropped his time by a whopping 85 secs from last year and along with Michael Chapa (15:27) have to be considered finalist contenders for next year.

Seeded Girls Race

Florida's Jennifer Benninger pulls away from the pack as they start the run around the lake to the 2 mile point. Currently running in 7th place is Christensburg's Kirsten Hagen with Forest Park senior Beth Fahey just behind her.
Close up of Beth Fahey as she passes by. The next Virginian to hit the lake trail is Warren County senior Emily Harrison.
Top Virginia sophomore Anna Chase takes the lake excursion. With a comfortable lead, seeded girls champion Jennifer Berringer (17:27) heads for the finish line.
Taking second place is Angelina Blackmon (17:42) from Rock Hill, SC. In the distance on the left Beth Fahey is just passing the 3 mile mark. Beth Fahey sprints the final 100 meters as she attempts to run down 2002 South chamption Rachel Forish. Beth's dash got her a sub 18 17:56 and a trip to San Diego as a Footlocker finalist.
The next Virginian to head for the finish is Emily Harrison whose 18:03 was good for 12th place. Kirsten Hagen follows with an 18:12 for 15th place.
