Giant Indoor Season Preview, Part 2: Top Field Athletes

Remember, when searching the calendar or the rankings, this is the 2015 Indoor Track season. Returning rankings come from the 2014 Indoor Track season.

Sydnei Murphy, Apex, Long & Triple Jump

Formerly known best as a sprint star, Murphy uncorked a 19' 4" long jump during the winter season of 2014, which is US #4 Returning and NC #5 All-Time. Then, she revealed another surprise, debuting in the triple jump outdoors and quickly rising to national attention in that event as she cracked the 40-foot barrier. She eventually jumped 41' 7.25", making her the #3 returner in the country from the spring in that event and the fifth-best in North Carolina history. Assuming that she brings her triple jump talents indoors this year, she will be a heavy favorite. She won't be the only contender for the crown, though: Mikaela Seibert (Cuthbertson) went 38-8 indoors, which is the 9th-best returning mark in the country. There were also 5 girls who jumped in the 38's and 39's outdoors last spring, led by Kacia Vines (Cedar Ridge). In the long jump, Kayla Moore (Cummings) hit 18' 3" in her debut high school season (and she is also a solid triple jumper). In the spring, Vines became the only other jumper beside Murphy to go farther than 19 feet, making those two the 19th- and 14th-best returners in the country, respectively.
