Mary Prouty (Myers Park) and Blair Ramsey (Grimsley) dueled each other and the difficult course and ended with a spectacular sprint.
The course on the Myers Park campus is tough - hilly and twisty, although much of it is in the shade (which was helpful on Saturday). The Invitational there produced some excellent racing if not any groundbreaking times, and none of the races this weekend were as close as the one between Mary Prouty and Blair Ramsey. The two emerged from the woods after pushing each other all race, and Ramsey won the dead sprint to the finish by 1 tenth of a second, clocking 19:56.40. In a mild surprise (although nothing that happens among the 4A West girls is truly all that surprising), Lake Norman's girls upset Myers Park on the Mustangs home course, winning by 6 points. The Wildcats also brought home both the individual and team titles in the boys' race, with Ty Sauerbrey running 17:29.80 to lead hs team to a 14-point victory over Providence.
