District Performances Spark Recruiting For Reddick, Picks Tarheels Of UNC

When you run a 10.73 and 21.61, colleges begin to take notice, and doors begin to open. That is exactly what happened for Boone senior and two sport athlete Brandon Reddick. After posting those times and winning the 4A District 4 Championship, Reddick says he received three offers the following week. With a spark in recruitment he recently made his college decision.

"I also considered Lipscomb, Arkansas State, University of North Florida, Florida International University, Embry Riddle, and the University of North Carolina. In the end I chose UNC because I think I'm a good fit to the team. Also, thhe academics there is something that could carry on past my track career."

Reddick remembers his first running experience in the 7th grade. He says it consisted of big bulky running shoes and terrible times, but he stuck with the sport throughout high school and improved his times every year going from the mid 11 second range, to low 11 seconds, to finally under 11 as a senior.

"Coming into my senior year, I set goals in the 100 and 200. I worked my hardest to achieve those goals. Also, I can attribute the drop in time to working out in the wieghtroom and getting my body  stronger."

The Tarheels,  who last year signed Ceolamar Ways out of Jacksonville, recently finished second at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Reddick says he is looking forward to competing on a top caliber program in one of the most competitive conferences in the country.

"I always wanted to compete at a high level and the ACC is one of the top conferences in Division 1. I look forward to being able to compete against those big schools. My goals are to run 20.9 in the 200m, 10.4 in the 100m, and make it to nationals my freshman year."
