Frosh/Soph Invitational Returns to the Track

The UNOFFICIAL JV State Championship is back!  Bring your future stars to Cary to compete against other young talent.

NCRunners spends a lot of time covering the elite athletes in our state - photos, meet recaps highlighting national and all-time state rankings, and lists of the state's top performers in every event.  At least once this season, though, the spotlight will be focused on North Carolina's future stars.  On Saturday, April 26th, the Frosh/Soph Invitational will be back on the track after a one-year hiatus, giving all the young talent in the state the opportunity to shine against peers of the same age.  Billed as "The UNOFFICIAL JV State Championship," the meet has been run by NCRunners webmaster Jeff George nearly every spring for the last 14 years.  Once limited to Forsyth County and the surrounding area, the meet quickly gained support from some of the larger programs around the state, who saw it as an opportunity to reward hard-working youngsters who got little recognition behind more-established upperclass runners.

In addition to the full schedule of Frosh/Soph events, the meet will also feature a limited schedule of Elite events featuring some of the state's best talents, as well as a handful of Junior/Senior events.  This will be the first stage of a trifecta for NCRunners Elite meets during 2014, as plans are in place for the cross country invitational (October 11th) and the second Holiday Invitational during indoor season.  As the tradition continues and the scope of the meet expands, 2014-2015 will be the first school year ever with three Elite Invitationals!
