Boys 55m  Dash
Trenton Guy Jr., West Charlotte – Trenton has had a remarkable season in all the sprints. Until very recently, Trenton held the #1 time in the country. His time of 6.30 stood for most of the season. His time is currently ranked #2 in the US and 7th in NC history. He was the 4A state champion at the distance and also won the 60m title at the Simplot Games in Idaho. We wish him the best of luck at the National Indoor meet (whichever one he runs in).

Kelvin Hardesty, New Bern
– Kelvin ran 6:41 in the prelims at the 4A state meet. It was rumored that he was a bit under the weather a good bit during the outdoor season, but he looked ready at the state meet. He was unable to run in the finals due to a spike issue, but his 6.41 is very deserving.

Hunter Furr, Forsyth Country Day
– This sophomore ran one of the quickest times in the country for his age group. He only ran in 2 indoor meets, but clocked a 6.54 in his win at the Liberty Christmas Invitational and 6.44 at the Eastern High School Challenge. Look for him to improve a lot during the outdoor season.

Boys 300m  Dash
Trenton Guy Jr., West Charlotte – Trenton also has run the #2 time in the US in the 300m. In a showdown at Virginia Tech, Trenton and Sean Holston ran the top 2 times in the country. Trenton clocked a 34.17, which is the #2 time in NC history. He also ran 21.52 at Simplot, which is the 3rd fastest time in NC history. As you can see, he has had a very successful season.

Antonio Sales, East Chapel Hill – Antonio ran a very good race against Trenton at the Eastern High School Challenge. He ran 35.07, which was the 2nd fastest time in the state this year. It also ranks him 13th on the All-Time NC list. Sales finished 3rd at the 4A state meet.

Aaron Anderson, Douglas Bryd
– Aaron wasn’t really on my radar this season. I had only seen a couple of times from him, but I definitely didn’t expect a 2nd place finish in the 4A state meet. Aaron defeated Sales by 2 hundredths of a second in a time of 35.37.

Boys 500m Dash
Lamarr Davis, East Wake – Lamarr has also been very successful this season. He has run the #1 time in NC history in the 400, 47.57, while winning at Simplot. He holds the #2 time in the US over the 500m distance. Only behind Sean Holston, the same runner who’s ahead of Trenton in the 300m dash. His 500 time of 1:04.05 is the 4th best in NC history. Look for Lamarr to burn up the tracks this outdoor season.

Anthony Hendrix, New Bern – Anthony is only a sophomore and coming off a very successful outdoor season in 2006. He led most of the way in the boys 500 at the 4A state meet, and he really made the race. Anthony clocked an impressive time of 1:04.72. His time ranks him #3 in the United States. It is also the 6th fastest time run in NC history.

Miles Walker, Providence – Miles is the #3 runner in North Carolina and the #1 runner in the US on a banked track. You can see that NC has incredible depth at this event. Miles ran his fastest time of 1:05.21 while winning the Virginia Tech Invitational. His 4A state meet performance wasn’t what he was hoping for, but he did help Providence win the 4x800 state title in a solid 8:10. Miles’ PR ranks him 7th All-Time in NC.

Boys 1000m Run

Dylan Ferris, East Forsyth - Dylan won the state 4A title this year which capped off a solid indoor season in the 1000m. Well, he actually didn't run too many "indoor" 1000's, but he had a couple big ones. The fastest was at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Dylan won the meet in 2:30.91 and ran the 2nd fastest time in NC history. Dylan is one of the top returners in the nation outdoors in the 800. We're all looking forward to some very fast times.

Lamarr Davis, East Wake -  Lamarr mainly concentrated on the shorter events during the indoor season. He only ran one 1000 all season, and that one was in the New York Armory. Lamarr ran a 2:31.13 which is the 3rd fastest time in state history. I asked him about the 1000 and he said, "During the 3rd lap, I was like . . . man, this is a long race." Lamarr is the #2 US returner outdoors in the 800.

John Curtiss, Providence -  John finished 2nd to Dylan in the 4A state meet, running his fastest time of the season. John had run one of the top 15 times in NC history previously at the Virginia Tech Invitational, but then bettered that as he ran for the win at the state champs. John ran 2:34.13 for the 8th fastest time in NC history. Look for big things out of John outdoors as his confidence is high after successful XC and indoor seasons.

Boys 1600m Run

Dakota Lowery, West Johnston -Dakoa ran a lot of mile races this indoor season, and he has to be pleased with just about every one. Hopefully he learned a lot from his races in Virginia and in New York. Dakota's PR from last outdoor season was 4:18 and indoors he ran 4:19.92. Obviously, big things are expected outdoors. Dakota won the 4A state title with an easy 4:28, one in which he simply ran smooth and then threw down a 30 second last 200. Dakota's time is the 6th fastest time in NC history.

Dylan Ferris, East Forsyth - Dylan only ran a couple 1600's this season, but ran a good one at the Eastern High School Challenge. Dylan ran 4:22.84 in the only 1600 he was fresh for with competition. Dylan ran 4:16 last outdoor season as a sophomore, so . . . 4:10? Dylan's time puts him 12th on the All-Time NC list.

Greg Dame, Mount Tabor - Greg may have only run one 1600 all season, but it was a solid run. His 4:26.65 came at the Eastern High School Challenge and was the 3rd fastest time run in NC this indoor season. Dame seems to be more at home on the track . . . my opinion.

Boys 3200m Run

Andy Wacker, Pinecrest - Andy was hurt for most of the indoor season. He had a stress fracture in his hip (I believe I remember that correctly), but it didn't keep him from running. It was one of those injuries that kept him from racing for awhile, but that was good as he was building base. Andy ran just over 10:00 to qualify for the 3200 at a Polar Bear meet. Then he went to Virginia and ran a 1600 in 4:30. He must have had confidence as he unleashed a very fast last 500m at the 4A state champs to win in 9:38.44. This was the fastest time of the season in NC.

Jonathan Sunde, Charlotte Catholic - Jonathan ran the 5th fastest time in NC this season, but he won a tactical race at the 1A/2A/3A state championships and made it look easy. Earlier in the season, at the Eastern High School Challenge, he ran 9:45.22. In that race he lost to a couple guys he saw again at the state meet, and this time came out on top, saving his best for last.

Greg Dame, Mount Tabor - Again, Dame makes the list. Greg actually had the 2nd fastest time in the state this season. He made a big move during the race and pulled away quite a bit, but may have gone a bit too soon. Wacker caught him, but he easily held on for 2nd. Dame's best time was 9:41.01 during the season. He also ran 9:48.74 at the Virginia Tech Invitational and 9:54 all by himself back in December.
