Indoor Track Coverage, Jan. 13th

UNC Opener

Many North Carolina high school athletes took part in the UNC Opener on Jan. 13th. If you notice NC HS athletes in the results who aren't in the elite performances, please send me an email. This was a college meet held on the UNC campus.

Here is a list of the fastest HS'ers in each event:

Shequyra Guy of West Charlotte qualified for the finals in the women's 60m dash running 7.86.

Jacinda Evans of Southern Durham ran 26.71 in the 200m dash.

Erika Charles of Durham School of the Arts finished 13th and ran 1:00.74 in the 400m dash.

Latoya James of Burlington Cummings finished 6th in the 60m hurdles running 8.87 in the prelims and 8.89 in the finals.Her time is the #6 ranked time run in the US this indoor season. (Note: Sherice Walker, her teammate, ran 8.88 and is ranked 7th in the US.

Patience Coleman of Southern Durham was 2nd in the high jump clearing 5' 6".

Sherice Walker of Burlington Cummings finished 13th in the long jump with a jump of 16' 7.25".

Latoya James of Burlington Cummings jumped 36' 10.25 in the triple jump.

Kamorean Hayes of Harding won the shot put with a throw of 48' 3.5". Her throw ranks her #2 in the United States so far this indoor season.

Trenton Guy Jr. of West Charlotte ran 6.88 while qualifying for the finals in the 60m dash. This is #5 ranked time in the country so far during indoors.

Trenton Guy Jr. won the 200m dash running a quick 21.94. His time is ranked #1 in the US. (note: Antonio Sales of East Chapel Hill also ran well finishing 5th in 22.36, the #5 time this season on a flat track.)

Clinton Peguese of West Charlotte ran 51.60 in the 400m dash.

West Charlotte boys ran 3:28.19 in the 4x400 under the name Racer X.

Maverick Miles of South Rowan cleared 12' 1.50" in the men's pole vault.

Austin Davis of Northern Durham jumped 47' 10" in the men's triple jump. This is the 3rd best jump in the country as of today.

Arkansas High School Invitational

New Bern traveled to Arkansas along with LaMarr Davis of East Wake. Thre were some fine performances run. LaMarr Davis and Anthony Hendrix ran national top 10 performances in the 400 and 800 respectively.

Below is a list of how these athletes competed:

LaMarr Davis ran 48.17 in the prelims and the finals to finish 3rd overall in the 400m dash.This time ranks him #3 all-time on the North Carolina list. This is also the #5 time in the country as of today. LaMarr also ran 22.48 in the boy's 200m dash.

Anthony Hendrix ran 1:55.56 to finish 2nd in the boy's 800m race. He is also ranked #4 in the country after this weekend's meets.

Andrew Hendrix of New Bern finished 8th in 800m running 2:01.64.

Rashard Dobie of New Bern ran 23.03 in the 200m dash and also jumped 45' 6" in the boy's triple jump.
