9/27-Williams, Gottesfeld, Spooner, Young show the US PA can run with anyone @ Great American in NC

Because of a teachers' strike, Hendeson's Greg Williams and Ian Gottesfeld traveled to North Carolina without their coach, but with all the confidence in the world after breaking a tough course record along with O'Hara's Steve Hallinan 9/20. The two finished 2nd (Williams 15:50) and 6th (Gottesfeld 16:00) in the Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina. Denver West's Mohamud Ige was two seconds better than Williams for the win. (Henderson finished 13th as a team with 341 points).

In the seeded boys race, Lewisburg's Chris Spooner challenged early and finished 7th in 15:52. Smoky Hill, CO's Ryan Deak won in 15:26.

In the girls Seeded Race, Cedar Cliff junior Janelle Young finished 10th in 19:18.25. Her team finished 11th. in the same race, Jessica Cickay of Council Rock North was 27th in 20:33.

Wyomissing #1 Ashley Iwanowski finished a very strong 19th in the Nike Race of Champions in 19:39. Her team finished 19th with 377 points.

LaSalle College's fabulous pack (4-10-12-14-15-16-22) overcame Cardinal Gibbons NC's 1-2 punch of Freddy Torres 15:57 and Nick Sunseri 15:59. All seven LaSalle runners finished before Gibbons' third to win the Seeded Boys race. Joe Fedorowicz led LaSalle with his 4th place 16:19. Carroll's Mike Tilger was 5th in 16:26.

Cedar Cliff, paced by four runners in 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th, won the Red Division race with 76 points. Tim Johnson was 1st in 17:06 for the Colts.
