Lovelace 9th in Seeded Boys, Qualifies for Nationals

Chapin junior Luke Lovelace qualified for Footlocker Nationals (Dec. 9) with top 9 finishing time of 15:13 at Footlocker South earlier today at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.

\"I almost fell, but I got up. I was probably about eighth at the start,\" said Lovelace. \"Then they started to move up and down. The first mile was pretty quick. It was about a 4:38. The main plan was to get into the top 10 and hold on from there. When we first hit the crowd around the big pond, I was in 10th. I had a little bit of a kick, but mainly my kick was to hold on to the top 10.\"

For training, Lovelace, under the guidance of Chapin coach Jack Legrand, mentioned, \"We did some 200s and 400s. To sharpen my speed. We actually increased my mileage, but then we tapered this past week.\"

In 2000, Mann alumnus Brandon Bartholomew finished 10th in 15:30 at Footlocker South, during his senior cross country season.

Daniel senior Stephanie Gammon was the first South Carolina runner across the line in the girls seeded race with 14th place time of 17:54.
