NCRunners and NCTCCCA to Combine Efforts on Postseason Meet

Why run two separate postseason meets, when you can combine them into one spectacular event?

NCRunners and the North Carolina Track & Cross Country Coaches Association will jointly present a postseason championship/tune-up meet this spring.  The meet will be held on June 1st at Bishop McGuinness High School, and will incorporate features of the NCTCCCA's Meet of Champions and the Elite Tune-Up previously hosted by Bishop McGuinness and NCRunners.  In particular, the meet will continue to feature the nighttime schedule for distance races that has been a hallmark of the Elite Tune-up, while continuing the Meet of Champions' goal to match state champions from different classifications.  Although these Elite races will be the centerpiece of the event, athletes of all levels will be welcome to participate.  The meet will serve a dual purpose on the outdoor track schedule: it will be a great conclusion to the season for athletes that want to get one more chance at a big performance, and it is also perfectly placed to provide athletes headed to New Balance Nationals the chance to remain sharp.

Although there are still several details to be ironed out, the meet will have the following features:

  • Seeded sections will include state champions from all classifications, public and private, along with other recruited elite athletes.
  • Unseeded sections will be open to high school athletes of any level who want to participate.
  • The meet will be open to athletes from other states.
  • A full slate of events, tailored to match those held at the New Balance Nationals two weeks later, including the 400 Hurdles, the 5000, and two medley relays.
  • A unique meet schedule is being developed, which will allow those events that most benefit from cooler temperatures to run later in the day.

Expect more details by mid-April, when NCRunners will begin actively recruiting athletes for the seeded sections.  We hope that this is the beginning of an ongoing partnership between NCRunners and the NCTCCCA, in the name of providing top-notch competition and exposure for North Carolina's athletes.
