The Brooks PR Invitational brings together the nations top track and field athletes from across the country to compete at the Dempsey Center in Seattle, Washington, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the nation. The meet consists of seven events the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, one mile run, and two mile run. Michigan is well represented sending seven of the state's finest to Seattle. Leading up to the meet we will spotlight these talented runners.

Hannah Meier, the Brooks PR meet record holder in the mile, will run the 800m in Seattle this weekend.  The Grosse Pointe South senior has won the 800m in all of her three Michigan Outdoor Championships, while adding two 1600m titles.  Hannah and her twin sister Haley have been driving forces behind the rise of Grosse Point South, which has become one of the top distance programs in the nation.  They have recorded relay bests of 8:48.29 for 4x800m and 11:37.11 for the DMR. In her junior year, not only did she win both the 800m and 1600m, Hannah added a second place finish at the USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The one to beat her, Mary Cain, has collected numerous American HS records on the track. Indoors, Meier finished first in the mile at both New Balance Indoors as well as the Brooks PR Invite.

She has had a great start to her senior track season, running sub 4:50 two times, including a 4:44 clocking this past weekend.  She posted a 4:48 split in the DMR to help her team record a US #3 All-Time.  She hopes the trip to Seattle will bring a new PR in the 800m.  “I am hoping to get as close to my 800m PR as possible, even though it is so early in the season.”

Getting To Know Hannah

What music do you listen to before races?

Before races, I listen to all of the songs that my coach put together in the videos from the past cross country and track seasons.  They include:  One More(Superchick), Requiem for a Tower(Corner Stone Cues), Let the Sunshine(Labrinth), Best Days(Graham Colton), Firework(Katy Perry), This is War(30 Seconds to Mars), Honor(Geoff Zanelli, Hans Zimmer), and Unstoppable(China Anne McClain).

What is your favorite food?

My favorite foods are probably vanilla greek yogurt, fruit leather, chicken spaghetti, chocolate cake, strawberries, rasberries, and blueberries.

If you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?

If I was stranded, I would definitely need food and water of course, my running shoes, and my ipod.

What are some things unrunning related people might not know about you?

For people who don’t know me, I am an identical twin, I am going to Duke University next year to study and run, I love being with my best friends, vacationing in the Virgin Islands, ice-skating, playing softball, soccer, and snow skiing, attending basketball games, and I love to intertube and water ski!
