Brooks PR Invitational California Connections - Khalfani Muhammad

The Brooks PR Invitational brings together the nations top track and field athletes from across the country to compete at the Dempsey Center in Seattle, Washington, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the nation. The meet consists of seven events the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, one mile run, and two mile run. California is well represented sending 16 athletes to Seattle. Leading up to the meet we will spotlight these talented runners.

PR's: 6.89 (60m), 10.44 (100m), 21.00 (200m)

As a sophomore Muhammad finished second in both the 100 and 200 with very impressive times of 10.67 and 21.46 at the CIF State Track & Field Championships. He bettered his times during his junior campaign. He started out the year, by running the 2012 Brooks PR Invitational where he went 6.89 against the best sprinters int he country finishing third in his heat. He says it is an honor to be invited back in 2013.

"It means a lot to be invited back. I was invited back from my success and accomplishments from last year and I looking forward to competing again."

At the Mt. Sac Relays the Notre Dame High School star won both the 100 and 200 in 10.55 and 21.32. Another improvement was on tap at the state meet where he picked up his first state titles winning the 100 and 200 in 10.52 and 21.12. For his successful season, Muhammad, a University of California signee, was invited to New York City to run against the nations' best at the Adidas Dream 100 where he placed fifth. He says his training has been great so far and he is really looking forward to the new track season which starts with the 2013 Brooks PR Inviational.

"I am looking forward to competing against some of the fastest kids in the nation. It is a great opportunity to be challenged in all aspects of track and see personal progress towards the outdoor season. To win is my goal or get a PR. but I prefer winning. The rest of the year I just want to better myself and be the best. To become a two time state champ while breaking records is my season goal."

What music do you listen to before races?
 
I listen to all genres, but I  prefer hip hop and rap.

If you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?

If I was stranded on an island with three things they would be a beautiful woman, army boots, and a flint fire starter.

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is lasagna.
 
What are some un-running related things people might not know about you?
 
I like to play video games and build planes/helicopters.
