About Our Team
SCHS is only 7 years old. In this short time, we have had four track state champions: Atolani Akinkuotu won the boys 100m and 200m in 2006. Kelsey McCorkle is a 9-time state champion winning the 100m, with a 3A state record of 11.79, and 200m in 2006, the 55m and 300m at the 2007 Indoor state championship, the 200m and 400m at the 2007 3A outdoor championships and repeating the 100/200 double in the 2008 outdoor, this time setting the 200m 3A state record w/a 23.63w. The girls also recorded a 3A state record in the 4x100 relay w/ a 47.24. The team was made up of Amber Clark, Bryana Wyatt, Natalie Cole, and McCorkle. Finally, Danielle Butts won the 2009 triple jump w/ a leap of 40' 11". Teamwise, we are growing and trying to develop in all events to become a strong overall program. The toughest areas for us to develop have been in the hurdles, field events, and mid-distance.
The cross-country program has enjoyed some success, with four individual state meet qualifiers: Brandon Hill in 2007, Josh Pomeroy in 2008, Kimberly Boltinhouse in '07 & '08, and Alexis Jones in 2009. The boys team won the coastal 3A/4A conference title in 2006. Boltinhouse was the two-time conference champ and runner-of-the-year in 2006 & 2007, and Jones kept those honors in the team in 2008. Just like the track program, the XC program is trying to grow and become a consistent threat in the 3A East region and is looking for it's first team state qualifier.
