Complete ResultsThe University of North Carolina women's and men's track teams opened the indoor season on Friday with first and second place finishes, respectively, at the Eddie & Jo Smith, Jr. Tar Heel Invitational. The Tar Heels tagged 11 first place finishes, including senior hurdler Vanneisha Ivy capturing a NCAA provisional mark with a time of 8.34 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Senior Caroline Vaughn got her season off to a solid start with a second-place showing in the 60m hurdles. She too breezed through her heat of the prelims in a time of 8.76 and then nearly matched her time with an 8.75 in the finals.
Senior Brent LaRue had himself a very good opening day of the 2010 track season, setting the school record in the pole vault and winning the 60m hurdles at the Eddie and Jo Jr. Tar Heel Invitational Friday.
