Footlocker South: Scott breaks Keogh\'s course record!!! Virginia sending 3 boys to San Diego! MileSplit Staff Nov 28, 2006

Aurora Scott, the homeschooled junior from Chesapeake, broke the 20 year standing course record held by Virginia all-time distance great Erin Keogh of Langley (16:45) by a convincing 19 second margin with a final time of 16:26 to outduel race favorite and Great American champ Kathy Kroeger of Tennesse (16:32) with both runners going well under the course mark at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. While Scott was the lone Virginia girl qualifier as Catherine White dropped out at the two mile mark, Virginia is sending their first trio of boys since the 2001 Foot Locker finalist group of Bobby Lockhart, Matt Keally, and Fleet Hower as Abingdon junior Griff Graves (3rd, 14:55), West Springfield senior Mike Spooner (5th, 15:06), and Mountain View sophomore Thomas Porter (10th, 15:13) will all be making the trip to San Diego together representing the state. North Carolina\'s Ryan Hill won the seeded boys race in 14:46. More to come with Charlotte as MileStat.com was on-site with coverage from Brandon Miles and John Herzog. Ryan Hill captures South title and a trip to San Diego Ben Hovis Nov 25, 2006

Ryan Hill of Hickory High School won the South Region race in a NEW STATE RECORDsetting time of 14:46. Hill was with the front pack at the mile mark as the group hit about 4:36. Coming down the hill, Ryan had let some of the leaders pull ahead, but he obviously knew he was still in striking distance. He came through the 2-mile mark in around 9:35ish and was sitting in 4th place. Somewhere in the back mile he made a serious push to get to the front and challenge Girma Mecdheso (GA) for the title. As they came onto the lake, Ryan had a slight lead (step). Girma then pulled back ahead and Ryan just sat there. Just before the final stretch he put on one of the sickest kicking displays I\'ve seen at McAlpine. He ripped up the final stretch to win the region, secure a ticket of the National Championships in San Diego, break the NC state record, and to tie last year\'s champ, Michael Eaton, for the 4th fastest time ever run at McAlpine . . . as a JUNIOR.
