Unattached Runners

  • #1 Unattached Runners
My son's team, a NC public school, is not going to the JDL meet. However, I have entered my son in the meet as an unattached runner. As an unatttached runner, if he were to run a state indoor qualifying time would he be able to use the time to particpate at the state meet? If not could he run for his high school team without his high school coach attending the meet?

Thank you for answering my questions,

@Kevinpsu160 If he runs "unattached," he cannot use the time as a state qualifying mark. He could, however, represent his team, even if he is the only athlete from his team that competes in the meet. He would have to have a coach present, though, I believe. So you will have to work through that with his coaches at the school.

@Kevinpsu160 All you would need for your son to compete without the team being there is a letter from the coach or athletic director on school letterhead saying he can compete. The athlete must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The athlete cannot just show up with the letter, having driven him/herself to the meet.
