For the last 4 years, a team of North Carolina XC athletes has been fortunate enough to travel to Australia and Hawaii. For the almost 60 athletes who have traveled with Coach Hovis and the Down Under Sports organization, it has been a very rewarding time. Results were posted at the meet, but not online as of yet. Here are a few quick notes.
With the season now fully underway, coaches, fans, athletes, & parents have all gotten a better idea of who belongs at the top. With big invitationals being run every weekend from now until the end of the season, look for these to change constantly. I'm sure there are still those sleepers out there who flying under the radar.

It's a big weekend ahead with 7 Invitationals all around the state from Wilmington to Cullowee, the Coastal Plain to the Mountain Region. 5 meets listed now!
TCR's girls continue to look good. Definitely the team to beat among NCHSAA 4A teams. Asheville's duo of Presson/Harwell have been leading the way for 4 years now.
One of the most talked about meets in North Carolina every year happens tonight at South View High School.
Wesley Frazier of Ravenscroft ran a very impressive time on a slow course this past week. Frazier, a freshman at Ravenscroft looks to be not only the girl to beat among the NCISAA athletes this year, but maybe the entire state.
From an extremely reliable source, ". . . things are set for the State Meet at Tanglewood."

Sophomores, Samantha George of Millbrook and Thomas Graham of Cary Academy come into the 2009 season with the fastest returning 5k's from the 2008 season.

Friday Highlights: Bryce Love of Greensboro set a new National Record in the Midget Boys 400m Dash!
In the 1A classification, Tyler Breedlove of Hayesville has the opportunity to win both an individual state title and a team. Will the Hayesville boy's, traditionally a strong team, pull off the big wins?
On the girl's side, Faith Trammel of Robbinsville is the top returner and her team are the early favorites. However, knee surgery for Faith may make things a lot more difficult for the Robbinsville team. Faith ran 18:48 for a 5k this summer, but then had surgery on her knee about a week later.
Realignment changes in the North Carolina public schools will give completely new looks to this year's classifications. It'll most likely take time for all of us to get a handle on who is where.

McAlpine Park was the site of the NCHSAA State XC Championships for a long time, then they moved the championships to Tanglewood Park. This year many have speculated as to where the meet will be moved to. Well, the wait is over. The NCHSAA state championships will be held at . . .
Nine NC athletes, one SC athlete, and one GA traveled together and represented their respective states and Team Carolina over the past week and half in Australia.
