Senior Spotlight: Alexis Perry

Coming off her MVP performance at the NCHSAA 4A Indoor State Championship, you might think Alexis Perry has already come close to her peak.  That is, until you hear her talking about how she has only recently committed to track & field as her primary sport; then, you start to think that we've only seen the beginning of what she can accomplish.  If you don't remember much about her from her sophomore year (two years ago), that's because she was recovering from a torn ACL suffered while cheerleading.  Last spring, she showed that she could be one of the best high jumpers and hurdlers in the state, and she showed a hint of her future when she popped a 19-foot long jump at her conference meet after never having broken 18 feet previously.  Unfortunately, a concussion prevented her from competing in the state meet last spring, but she recovered enough to get a PR of 5' 7.75" in the high jump over the summer.  Her biggest area of development this year has been in the hurdles, where she won the 4A state championship in a state-leading time of 8.18.  With that kind of versatility, could she end up competing in the heptathlon for NC State?  Check out her own words on that subject, her injury history, and her decision to make track number one:
