 SATURDAY: Girls: Tamaqua junior and PIAA state AA champ Allison Updike took 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 154-00 on the 3rd toss in the prelims. She held the lead until the final throw of the competition. Also earning all-American status for PA were fellow junior Lauren Kenney of State College with a 3rd place throw of 145-10, and senior Meghan Morton of Saint Pius X with her 136-05 5th place toss. Updike's throw is #5 in meet history. In the next to last year, State College grad Chloe Schmidt was 2nd, but finished 9th overall in 2:09.85. Also taking 9th was Middletown junior Aubree Ray with a 130-10 discus. Rachael Serafin, Hempfield (7) was 18th with a 122-11 throw. Homer Center soph Angel Piccirillo would run 15th overall in the very stacked one mile run, finishing in 4:57. 67. Running in the early heats of the championship 400 meter dash, Ayanna Fields, Force Fields TC and Lydia Ali, Radnor ran 55.44 and 56.53, respectively. Fields would finish 11th overall, and Ali, 22nd. In the Emerging Elite 4x100 final, Montrose finished 8th in 49.94. Phoenixville grad Courtney Kedra took 23rd in the long jump with a leap of 17-04.75. SATURDAY: Boys: Methacton grad Carlton Lavong pocketed another national title after his triple jump runner-up Friday, taking the long jump with a leap of 24-08.25. Altoona senior Chris FIscher missed all-American by about three seconds, finishing 8th in the 2000 meter steeplechase in 6:11.07. Cheltenham took 2nd in their 2nd fastest time of the season, going 3:14.18. Anchor Matt Gimore split 46.22. Somerset senior Kyle Younkin PRed by over a second, capturing 3rd overall by winning the next to last heat in 47.33. Altoona's Brady Gehret was DNS. Father Judge senior Tom Kehl finished off his career with a 4:13.13 11th place finish. Henderson rising-senior Luke LeFebure took 12th overall in the 800 meter run in 1:52.39. Altoona's Wade Endress was a DNS. Trinity (3)'s Jake Brenza was 15th in the shot put with a 49-10.50. The Germantown Friends 4xmile relay finished 9th in 17:43.67, and their DMR took 18th overall in 10:41.03. Penncrest took 4th in the Emerging Elite 4x400 in 3:22.05. Altoona's Brady Gehret and Wade Endress lost their opportunity to compete because of illness. The story in the Altoona Mirror.  FRIDAY: Girls: Sara Sargent goes 10:50.30 in the 2-mile to take 10th in the hot heat, 11th overall. Plymouth Whitmarsh junior Emerald Walden went 14.49 in the prelims and matched the time in the finals to capture the Emerging Elite 100 meter hurdles. Radnor junior Lydia Ali ran 11.88 for 13th in the prelims of the 100 meter dash. In the shot put, Hempfield (7) junior Rachel Serafin was PA's top placer at 12th with a put of 42-02. Montrose senior Julia Koloski was PA's top finisher in the triple jump with her 12th place effort of 38-05. Lauren Terstappen, Phoenixville, cleared 11-10 in the pole vault to finish in a three-way tie for 13th. Hempfield (7) sophomore Larissa Debich also cleared 11-10, and was tied for 16th. Wilson (11) senior Allison Vanek did not compete. In the Emerging Elite Shot Put, Anna McCloskey, Cardinal O'Hara, took 4th with a shot put of 40-02.25. In the Emerging Elite 4x100 meter relay, the Montrose girls ran 49.80 and advanced to the finals.  FRIDAY: Boys: Methacton's Carlton Lavong captured 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 50-11, just 2 inches shy of his PR... while Athens Area junior Jarred Gambrell took 5th with a leap of 49-02.50, a PR by over 3 inches. And McDowell senior Pat Cochran PRed by 10.5 inches, just missing the podium (1/2") with his 7th place effort of 48-09.50.  Chris Carper, Altoona, came back from a disappointing state meet to take 5th in the javelin with a throw of 194-07. Tom Lang of St. Pius X, was 9th at 185-00. In the first heat of two in the 2-mile run, Chestnut Hill Academy sophomore Dustin Wilson came back from his 5k Thursday, and took 19th in 9:22.70, while Mount Lebanon's Rad Gunzenhauser was 8th in the race in 9:26.58. Cheltenham took 12th in the 1600 meter sprint medley relay in 3:38.85. Liberty's Stephen Lewis was 12th in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles, going 14.17. Lewis also finished in a tie for 9th in the high jump, clearing 6-06.75. He was joined in that tie by Conestoga's Michael Krone. McDowell's John Dahlstrand was also over that height, but was 11th. And Trinity (7)'s Michael McClelland took 17th at a height of 6-04.75. In the discus, Jake Brenza, Trinity (3), was 18th with a throw of 158-01. Father Judge came up 23rd in 7:54.97 and Penncrest 24th in 7:56.11 in the 4x800 meter relay. THURSDAY: Boys: Chestnut Hill sophomore Dustin WIlson (left, in photo by SCRunner's John Olson) showed no fear, and took it out with the leaders in the hot heat of the 5000. He held on over the final mile to post a 15:15.40, which was good for 8th overall between both races. Tunkhannock's Reese Ayers took 12th in the hot heat in 15:27.39. Chambersburg's Blake Stahl was 4th in the Emerging Elite Javelin with a throw of 166-08.50. |
