Presson & Frazier Impress at Raleigh Relays 3200, US #1 Times for Both; Videos Posted

Ravenscroft's Wesley Frazier set the track on fire in the girl's race as she paced the field with a 10:22.76. Her time is the 3rd fastest in NC history. Wesley ran away from the field in the first 100m and never looked back. Clocking an opening lap of 72, she was clearly the class of the field. Wesley's 1600m splits were 5:10 and 5:12.

However, eventhough Frazier had a gap on the field, the gap was only about 10-15 sec. through most of the race. Kaitlyn Davis of Mountain View (VA) and Samantha George of Millbrook battled the entire race, each taking turns leading the chase group. George finally got the best of the battle and finished 2nd overall in a new personal best and also a blistering time of 10:36.05. Two others girls went sub-10:40 and both did so with huge finishes over the last 600m or so. Stephanie Frenchik of Landstown (VA) was 3rd in 10:37.01 and Laura Hoer of TC Roberson ran 10:37.37.

This was an outstanding race as expected, with 5 NC girls clocking sub 11:00 3200's. Lauren Strapp of Leesville saw 10's for the first time in career running 10:55.98 and Pinecrest's Lexie Schustrom ran 10:46.96 for a new PR.

* 14 NC girls went under 11:30 - most likely a record for one race!

In the boys race, Isaac Presson of Asheville took the lead just after the 1600m mark. The first 800m went through pretty quickly and then it began to slow a tad. As they hit the 1600 mark in 4:34/35, Presson made his first move. This began to spread the field out a bit. With 800m to go, Collin Mearns of Jamestown (VA) took over and put in a big surge. Presson and Blake Williams of Northern Durham were the only ones close at this point. Presson began to close the small gap with about 500m to go and at the bell lap he had regained the lead. There aren't too many peope who are going to outkick the speedy Presson and he proved that once again tonight. With a big finish, Presson cross the line in 9:00.87, the #7 time in NC history. Presson's previous best was 9:14 which he ran just prior to the Foot Locker South Regional.

Like the girls race, this race did not disappoint. Blake Williams, only a junior, came through in 2nd place, clocking a new PR of 9:04.36, NC #10 all-time. He was followed closely by Mearns in 9:05. 18 athletes ran 9:30 or better making this an insane HS boys 3200m. 16 of the 18 boys were from NC which easily makes this the deepest 3200m run by NC athletes in state history!

*Note, US marks below are slightly off now as there was also a big 3200 in Florida. Presson is still #1.
