NC Athletes at USATF National Junior Olympics in Greensboro

HIGHLIGHTS

Tuesday, 7/28/09:

* Frances Dougherty, NC Science & Math, placed 3rd in the Young Women's 2k steeplechase in 7:43.95
* Aslynn Halvorson, Butler, was 4th in the Young Women's hammer throw with a toss of 147-01
* Nnenna Okwara, Charlotte Latin, placed 5th, right behind Aslynn with a throw of 138-10
* Ryan Minor of South Brunswick was 3rd in the Intermediate Boys hammer throw with a toss of 173-00 just 6 feet away from 1st

 

Wednesday, 7/29/09:

* Osvaldo Hernandez of the High Point Panthers finished 4th in the 3K Race Walk in 21:39.96
* The Charlotte Speed placed 4th in the Intermediate Boys 4x800m with a time of 8:23.39. The team was Eric Blake(West Charlotte), Cameron Tate(Vance), Gregory Cunningham(West Charlotte), & Brandon Dunford(Hopewell).
* Track Eastern placed 2nd in the Young Women's 4x800 in 9:34.93. The team consisted of Jocelyn Keen(Fuquay-Varina), Jenna Christensen(Cary), Ryanna Henderson(Jacksonville), & Allie Johnson(Athens Drive)
* Track Eastern's boys Young Men's team also finished 2nd in the 4x800 in 7:48.70. The team was made up of Tadarrin Phronebarger(West Charlotte), Steven Merritt(Knightdale), Paris Reddick-Simmons(SE Raleigh), & Patrick Moakley(Green Hope).
* Jessica Farr of Dudley placed 4th in the Young Women's long jump with a leap of 19-02.00
* North Rowan's Teaunna Cuthbertson placed 2nd in the Intermediate Girl's triple jump in 39-04.50
* Aisha Cannon of Mooresville was 4th in the IG's triple jump with a mark of 38-09.75
* Hannah Kisley of Cary Academy placed 2nd overall in the Intermediate Girl's 3,000m race walk with a time of 17:23.88

 

Thursday, 7/30/09:

* Northside's Kenneth Rowland placed 5th in the Young Men's shot put with a throw of 58-03.25
* Ryan Minor of South Brunswick finished 5th in the Intermediate Boy's discus with a toss of 153-04
* Mitch Mallory of Knightdale ran a solid 8:55.99 to place 2nd in the Intermediate Boy's 3,000m
* Patrick Moakley of Green Hope qualified for the finals of the Young Men's 800m with a time of 1:54.64
* Kristen Rush of Greensboro Day qualified for the finals of the Young Women's 800m in a very fast 2:15.72
* Fuquay-Varina's Jocelyn Keen also qualified for the YW's 800m final in 2:17.03
* DeJah Jones of Durham, only 13?, flew to a quick 2:15.53 to make it to the finals of the Youth Girl's 800m (Look out for this girl, she is amazing!)
* Another young one to look out for is Paisley Simmons of the High Point Panthers. She had the fastest qualifying time in the Youth Girl's 200 with a time of 24.26.
* NC's youngsters are rolling! Bryce Love of Greensboro had the fastest time in qualifying in the Midget Boy's 200m with a time of 23.38.
* Fuquawn Greene of New Bern qualified for the finals of the Young Men's 200m dash with a time of 21.37
* SE Raleigh's Sean McLean also qualified for the finals with a time of 21.45
* Jordan's Zakiya Tyson qualified for the finals of the Young Women's 200m in a time of 24.00
* 2 athletes qualfied for the Intermediate Boy's 200m final, Kendall Kee of Shelby in 22.09 & Mar-Keo Jones of Knightdale in 22.11
* Xavier Jones of Greensboro had the fastest qualifying time in the Youth Boy's 200m with a time of 22.82
* Aslynn Halvorson of Butler threw 42-11.50 for 2nd place in the Young Women's shot put
* Lincoln Carr of Pine Forest jumped 50-07.25 to claim the NATIONAL TITLE in the Youn Men's triple jump competition

* SE Raleigh, Steve Bell, placed 4th overall in the triple with a mark of 48-03.50
* Jarrett Samuels, Vance, won the NATIONAL TITLE in the Intermediate Boys long jump with a mark of 23-11.75
* Track Eastern's Young Men's 4x400 team qualified for the finals. The team was Tadarrin Phronebarger, Malcolm Nunley, Patrick Moakley, & Dontrez Carmon.

Friday, 7/31/09:

* Again, Bryce Love, Midget Boys, runs very fast in prelims, 11.59 to qualify first in the heats
* Kendall Kee of Shelby ran 11.00 in the prelims to qualify for the Intermediate Boys final
* Zakiya Tyson of Jordan ran 11.78 to qualify for the finals of the Young Women's 100m. She qualified with the 2nd fastest time
* Ryan Minor of South Brunswick placed in the top 5 for the 3rd event in these Nat'l Championships. He did so in the Intermediate Boy's shot put with a throw of 52-06.75
* Durham's DeJah Jones does it again and runs a very quick prelim race. She ran 4:51.17 in the Youth Girl's 1500m run to qualify for the finals with the fastest time.
* Taylor Dunn of Caldwell Academy qualified for the finals in the Intermediate Girl's 1500 with a time of 4:51.87
* Andrew Byrd of Orange HS placed 3rd overall in the Young Men's discus throw with a mark of 176-03
* Cumming's Montrell Morrow was 5th overall in the YM's discus with a throw of 168-04
* Kenyetta Iyevbele of Olympic qualifed for the finals of the Young Women's 1500m in a time of 5:01.69
* 3 girls qualified for the finals in the Young Women's 400m dash. Aeisha Goggins of Riverside in 54.96, Miata Morlu of Providence Day in 54.95, & Sanura Eley-Reilly of Jack Britt in 54.96
* Xavier Jones of Greensboro had the fastest time of the prelims in the Youth Boys 400m dash with a time of 50.95
* Superstar Bryce Love set a new National Record in the Midget Boys 400m dash with a time of 51.76 breaking the old record of 52.90 by over a second.
* Aslynn Halvorson of Butler won the Young Women's discus competition with a toss of 153-00
* Track Eastern's boys qualified 3rd in the Young Men's 4x100m relay with a time of 41.32. The team consisted of Hunter Furr of Mount Tabor, and Tyrell Lindsay, Daishawn Styron & Fuquawn Greene of New Bern.
* The girls of Track Eastern also qualified in 3rd in the YW's 4x100 with a time of 46.61. The team consisted of Dominique Weathers of Vance, Ebony Scott of SE Raleigh, Rochelle Bygrave of Millbrook, and Brianna Wyatt.
* The Intermediate boy's team from Track Eastern qualified 1st with a time of 42.15. Jarrett Samuels of Vance, Mar-Keo Jones of Knightdale, Joseph Horton of Knightdale, and Claytin Lewis.
* The Triangle Champions team of Alexis Murphy of Holly Springs, Santese Pryor of Jordan, Patrice Goldmon, and Desirea Odom of Hillside ran 47.26 to qualify 2nd.
