Jalen Herring Chooses To Become A Gamecock!

North Carolina College Signings

NCHSAA 4A 300m Dash State Champion Jalen Herring of Middle Creek will be heading to Columbia next year to compete as a Gamecock!

On Tuesday Herring announced that his final three schools were USC, North Carolina A&T and Virginia Tech.  Yesterday at a ceremony at his school Herring announced he would be attending USC in the fall.

Herring has been one of the states best 400 runners for the last two seasons recording a PR of 48.33 as a junior and 47.92 as a senior.  This indoor season Herring won the NCHSAA 4A 300m Dash title clocking a PR of 34.91 to secure the victory over a strong field.

Herring also placed 2nd in the 4A 400m Dash where he achieved his PR of 47.92 and doubled back to take 2nd in the 200m dash running 22.29.

Herring said he chose USC because "USC's academic support is amazing and they have a great environment down there. Also, the coaching staff really believes I can come in and make an impact for the team."  USC competes in the SEC Conference, which is the gold standard for collegiate sprinting.

Herring could still better his High School PRs over the next month as he has still been competing in the USATF circuit with Track Xplosion. Last year he won the USATF Region 3 Championship in the 400 (North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland in the Region) and advances to the USATF National JO Championships where he took 13th in the 17-18 season.  The best still could be yet to come for Herring as his high school career comes to a close.
